Nuno Felted Bag Workshop with Chris Hall of Cake Tin Hat
Participants will learn to layout wool fibres and apply various weights of fabric to create the surface pattern design of their own bag. After selecting a style and colours we will design and create our own bag from the finest merino wool and silk fibres using a wet felting resist technique and seamless construction method. By the end of the day each participant will have completed a beautiful heirloom Nuno felted bag which they take home to dry and apply decorative stitching if desired.
Skills required: Some felting experience is required. Felting skills involve everything from delicate hand and finger dexterity to strong physical effort in the arm and shoulder area and requires and a lot of standing. Stamina is essential. Maximum 4 participants.
Materials supplied: Merino wool top, silk fibre, a selection of fabrics, template material, soap, bubble wrap, pool noodle, and other felting tools will be made available.
Students need to bring the following: Two old bath towels, two old hand towels, a bucket, sharp scissors, an apron or a change of top (not necessary but just in case of getting wet). You are also encouraged to bring along some of your own fabrics; silks, cottons, linens and scarves (vintage or otherwise) to help you to learn which fabric will felt with wool.
