thrummed mitts

Thrummed Mitts Class – 2 Saturdays – November 17th & 24th, 1-4 pm

Come and knit with us they soft cozy mitts!

We will start with double pointed needles and knit in the round (it is possible to knit using the magic loop method if you prefer this method).

Day 1 we will cast on and knit the ribbed cuff right up to the thumb and put the thumb stitches onto stitch holder. This will give you a chance to put in a few rows of thrums and learn how to take the roving and split it into thrums.

Homework for the week before Day 2 – continue the mitt up to the point where you would be doing the decreases of the top of the mitt.

Day 2 we will do the decreases at the top of the mitt and finish the top and then pick up the thumb stitches and knit up the thumb and add thrums. At the end of Day 2 you should have 1 finished mitt. If there is time at the end we will cast on the 2nd mitt.

At the end of the 2 days you will have 1 finished mitten and the ability and knowledge to knit the 2nd mitten along with a mitten pattern to make more mittens in a variety of sizes.

Materials to bring: a set of double pointed 4.5 mm needles, scissors, tape measure and a darning needle.

Material kit that we will supply: Kelly McClure’s Mitten pattern, 1 ball of 200 yards of worsted weight yarn (a number of colours will be available to choose from) and 50 grams of merino roving (we have a large selection of colours of merino to choose from).
