Wet Felted Hat Workshop @ Rosehaven Yarn Shop

Wet Felting Hat Workshop with Chris Hall of Cake Tin Hats
You will learn to will measure, size and design your own hat pattern. After selecting a style and colours you will design and create your own felted hat from the finest merino wool fibres using a resist technique and seamless construction method. By the end of the day you will have completed a beautiful heirloom wet felted hat which you will fit and shape using a milliner’s wooden hat block, then style, finish and take home to dry.
Skills required: Some felting experience is preferred but not mandatory. Felting skills involve everything from delicate hand and finger dexterity to strong physical effort in the arm and shoulder area and requires some standing.
Materials included: merino wool fibre, template material and the use of all necessary items including soap slurry, bubble wrap, pool noodle, felting tools and vintage wooden hat blocks of varying sizes and shapes.
 Students are required to bring: two old bath towels, two old hand towels, a bucket, sharp scissors, an apron or change of top (not necessary but just in case you get wet) and your lunch (or there is a cafe located across the street).
 
The cost is $135 per class.

Felted Soap and Felted Balls (decorative or for the dryer) @ Rosehaven Yarn Shop | Prince Edward | Ontario | Canada

This class is taught by Lesley Snyder, the owner of Rosehaven Yarn Shop and an avid felter from the past decade.

Felted soap and felted dryer balls make excellent hostess gifts or are great to use yourself!

Spend an afternoon playing with colours, wool and soap and see all the things you can create!

Materials will be included and you will have your choice of colours from the wall of merino rovings in our downstairs studio space.

In the 2 1/2 hours you should be able to complete 1 bar of soap and at least 1 dryer balls in basic multi colours. What you actually finish will depend on how detailed you get with any additional designs on your soap and balls.

We will bring out the needle felting needles so you can play and learn to add images or anything else your imagination can come up with!

Materials to bring:
A big towel to help with keeping the water off the floor.
A medium sized bowl or container that can hold soapy water while you felt.
Scrap yarn that will create to core of your dryer ball. Acrylic is fine, the wool roving will felt to just about anything.
A plastic bag to take wet items home with you.

Small Felted Vessel Workshop @ Rosehaven Yarn Shop

This workshop will be taught by Chris Hall of CakeTin Hats.

Students will design and make two beautiful small felted vessels from merino wool and silk fibres using different design techniques, styles and colours. You will learn about resist techniques and differential shrinkage methods used to create various shapes. By the end of the day you will have completed two lovely little vessels which you will take home to dry. These can be used to hold your little treasures, small potted plants, jewellery, spare change or as lovely free standing sculptures. Felting is full of endless possibilities and what you create will only be limited by your imagination!

Skills required: Some felting experience is preferred but not mandatory. Felting skills involve everything from delicate hand and finger dexterity to strong physical effort in the arm and shoulder area and requires some standing. Maximum 6 participants.

Materials included: Merino wool, silk fibre, template material, soap slurry, bubble

wrap, pool noodle and felting tools will be available to use.

Students are required to bring: Two old bath towels, two hand towels,  a bucket, sharp scissors, an apron or a change of top (not necessary but just in case you get wet) and your lunch (or there is a cafe located across the street).

Cost of the full day workshop, including materials is $120.00 (plus HST).

Call Rosehaven Yarn Shop between 10 and 5 at 613-476-9092 to pay for and hold  your spot.  Cancellations will be refunded if notified a 30 days in advance of workshop date.  Less than 30 days before the workshop no refunds will be given.
