Lesley Snyder, owner of Rosehaven Yarn Shop, will be teaching the mosaic felting course. Lesley is a fibre artist that has been felting for a decade and selling her shawls and garments in her shop and also at Arts On Main gallery where she used to be a member.
Lesley will show you how to create texture, play with colour and work with negative space to create something unique and different in a shawl. We will work on applying different fabrics along with the wool to create layers, texture and add movement to your piece. We will be using resists as well to add more texture. Plus a few tricks to adding 3 dimensional pieces.
There will be an hour lunch break when you can visit a local cafe or bring a lunch if you prefer.
Call the shop (7 days a week, 10-5) to register and pay for your spot. 613-476-9092.
Wet Felting Slippers for adult or child or baby workshop with Chris Hall of Cake Tin Hats
This workshop will be taught by Chris Hall of CakeTin Hats.
Students will design and make two beautiful small felted vessels from merino wool and silk fibres using different design techniques, styles and colours. You will learn about resist techniques and differential shrinkage methods used to create various shapes. By the end of the day you will have completed two lovely little vessels which you will take home to dry. These can be used to hold your little treasures, small potted plants, jewellery, spare change or as lovely free standing sculptures. Felting is full of endless possibilities and what you create will only be limited by your imagination!
Skills required: Some felting experience is preferred but not mandatory. Felting skills involve everything from delicate hand and finger dexterity to strong physical effort in the arm and shoulder area and requires some standing. Maximum 6 participants.
Materials included: Merino wool, silk fibre, template material, soap slurry, bubble
wrap, pool noodle and felting tools will be available to use.
Students are required to bring: Two old bath towels, two hand towels, a bucket, sharp scissors, an apron or a change of top (not necessary but just in case you get wet) and your lunch (or there is a cafe located across the street).
