Have you always wanted to learn how to knit? It’s easier than you think! Come and join us in a relaxed environment with beautiful yarn and needles. You will learn how to cast-on, knit, purl and cast-off, all the basics.
Erin Thomson will be your guide, and you will be knitting in no time.
The joy of knitting toe-up, two-at-a-time socks is very nearly magical and is most certainly addictive. A dear friend of mine showed me how to do it and now I can’t stop!
Join me on a fun and informative adventure to making socks that fit, and never cause you to get the dreaded SSS (second sock syndrome)!
This class will introduce you to a Turkish cast on and a knitting method using two 24″ fixed circular needles and we will use the Fish Lips Kiss heel method.
The class will run for 3 sessions at 2 hours each, October 2nd, 9th and the 16th.
Material kits will be available for purchase at Rosehaven Yarn Shop. There will be a choice of different colours of sock yarn and the option of using a contrasting yarn for the heel and toes.
Erin Thomson is the teacher for this class and is a fabulous knitter that is a self-confessed lover of sock knitting.
Materials will include;
1 x 40″ fixed circular needle in the size needed for gauge (usually 2.25 mm or 2.5 mm)
1 skein of fingering weight yarn 75% wool and 25% nylon, 400 meters
Fish Lips Kiss heel pattern
This workshop will be taught by Chris Hall of CakeTin Hats.
Students will design and make two beautiful small felted vessels from merino wool and silk fibres using different design techniques, styles and colours. You will learn about resist techniques and differential shrinkage methods used to create various shapes. By the end of the day you will have completed two lovely little vessels which you will take home to dry. These can be used to hold your little treasures, small potted plants, jewellery, spare change or as lovely free standing sculptures. Felting is full of endless possibilities and what you create will only be limited by your imagination!
Skills required: Some felting experience is preferred but not mandatory. Felting skills involve everything from delicate hand and finger dexterity to strong physical effort in the arm and shoulder area and requires some standing. Maximum 6 participants.
Materials included: Merino wool, silk fibre, template material, soap slurry, bubble
wrap, pool noodle and felting tools will be available to use.
Students are required to bring: Two old bath towels, two hand towels, a bucket, sharp scissors, an apron or a change of top (not necessary but just in case you get wet) and your lunch (or there is a cafe located across the street).
Cost of the full day workshop, including materials is $120.00 (plus HST).
Call Rosehaven Yarn Shop between 10 and 5 at 613-476-9092 to pay for and hold your spot. Cancellations will be refunded if notified a 30 days in advance of workshop date. Less than 30 days before the workshop no refunds will be given.
